About this event

Lord Austin of Dudley is a British politician who sits as a life peer in the House of Lords. He was the Member of Parliament (MP) for Dudley North from the 2005 general election until the 2019 general election when he stood down.

Lord Austin was brought up in Dudley and has lived in the Borough most of his life. He was adopted as a baby and his adoptive father was the adopted child of a Holocaust survivor. He went to the Dudley School and has a degree in government and politics from Essex University.

Lord Austin served as a member of Dudley Council between 1991 and 1995. Before his election he worked in government as political adviser to the Chancellor of the Exchequer Gordon Brown. He was appointed a Parliamentary Private Secretary to Gordon Brown in 2007, a role he retained until 2008.
